قال الشاعر العربي الأموي الكبير, الفرزدق: «أَلا يا دَهْرُ أُنْسِ لي بِخَلٍّ سَلِيمٍ ... مَا لَهُ مِنْ رَأْسِ الشَّبابِ حُطَامُ»، يعبر فيها عن الحنين للشباب والأيام الجميلة التي مرت، وعن الحزن على الزمن الذي لا يعود.

The great Umayyad Arab poet, Al-Farazdaq, once said: "Oh Time, show me mercy with a wholesome friend... From whom nothing remains of the youth but ruins". Here, he expresses his longing for youth and the beautiful days that have passed, and his sadness for the time that never returns.
